Planting Bulbs

Bulbs require both planning and planting

If you want to see beautiful color from bulbs in spring you want to start thinking about them in September. Spring blooming bulbs need nearly a month of cold temperatures to be stimulated, and though you can do them later in the year it is much easier to plant before frost occurs and ground freezes. The planting itself is pretty straight forward. Simply prep the soil by making sure it is loose, plant the bulbs nose up (or root down), plant at a depth of three times the width of the bulb and keep them watered. Fertilize the soil when you plant and don’t forget to fertilize again in spring when you see growth shoots emerge.
